Aramis Ramirez Will Be Back With the Cubs in 2011

Aramis Ramirez was plagued by various injuries during the 2010 season, but we can safely say that none of them affected the workings of his brain.

Ramirez announced Wednesday that he would be exercising his $14.6 million player option for the 2011 season. That decision takes care of his immediate future and also puts the Cubs on the clock to make a decision about Ramirez's $16 million option for the 2012 season. If they don't exercise it, they'll owe Ramirez a $2 million buyout instead.

While they'll likely only be out the smaller amount of money, there's reason to hope that this year's salary won't be a waste. Ramirez's injury woes help explain why he finished with a .241 average, a .294 on-base percentage and his lowest OPS+ since 2002, and things got much better in the second half.
