Report: Dan Uggla Turned Down 4-Year, $48 Million Offer From Marlins

At the end of the 2010 season, Dan Uggla made it clear that he wanted a long-term contract from the the Marlins. The Marlins offered him one, but there appears to be some disagreement on how much money there should be in such a contract.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Uggla turned down a four-year, $48 million offer from the team. That represents a pretty serious raise from the $7.8 million he made last season and would keep him in South Florida through his 34th birthday. That seems like a pretty good deal when you factor in what guys like Robinson Cano, Dustin Pedroia and Chase Utley make.

Assuming the Yankees exercise their options, Cano will make $39 million over the next three years before free agency in 2014. Pedroia will be making $33 million over the next four years and Utley will get $45 million over the next three. Uggla has the advantage of being closer to free agency than those guys were when they signed their extensions, but they have the advantage of being better overall players.
