CALGARY, Alberta -- It looked like business as usual as the Calgary Flames stepped onto the Pengrowth Saddledome ice for the commencement of their 2010 NHL training camp on Saturday.
But with a lineup that will probably not look all that much different from last year's, fans are hoping the results will be anything but usual.
The spotlight on Day One shone on the teaming up of captain Jarome Iginla and newcomers (of sorts) Alex Tanguay and Olli Jokinen. The latter duo, of course, were re-acquired by general manager Darryl Sutter after last season, moves that mystified observers at the time since both had been turned away by the Flames (Tanguay in 2008 and Jokinen in February).
Yet, with a new season on the horizon, the three were all smiles and speaking about their reunion with delight.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to play with Alex and Olli,'' mused the ever-positive Iginla. "Everybody was excited and it was a good pace. I don't know if you can force chemistry so much. I think communication is important, but a lot of it is natural. Some of the best lines you have, it just happens.'' Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
