Ricky Hatton was fined $31,000, had his boxing and manager's licenses revoked and lost his ability to work the corners of fighters following Wednesday's decision by the British Boxing Board of Control. His promoter's license, however, was retained.
The sanctions come in the wake of the former world champion's admission to a rehabilitation clinic after the News of the World recently published a video of Hatton that appeared to show him snorting cocaine.
Hatton (45-2, 32 knockouts) has not fought since May 2009, when he was stopped in the second round by Manny Pacquiao. Hatton, who also lost by 10th-round knockout to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in December 2007, had victories over former world champions Jose Luis Castillo, Paulie Malignaggi, Luis Collazo and Juan Urango.
Hatton, 31, was admitted to a rehabilitation clinic after the published report and video.
"I am currently in the Priory (clinic) dealing with depression due to the fact I have not been able to cope with my retirement from boxing," said Hatton. "I have been binge drinking heavily and dabbling in other daft and silly things. But it will be the toughest fight of my life and I am here to win it."
