Giants Bench Pablo Sandoval for Game 3

ATLANTA -- Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval was benched for Game 3 of the NLDS because he is in another of the offensive ruts that have spoiled his second full season in the big leagues. Mike Fontenot was in the lineup at third.

"I think it's fair to say Pablo is searching a little bit with his swing, so we made a change," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "We did this a couple times late in the season."

Sandoval was 1-for-6 in the first two games, and he also made an error. He hit .268 this year, after batting .330 last year. Sandoval hit .214 with one homer over the final 25 games in the regular season.
