IOWA CITY, Iowa - Norm Parker is a coaching legend in these parts, and his Iowa defenses over the years have epitomized what fans love in tough, hard-nosed units.
Of course, the fans love Norm, too.
Parker, 69, will miss his sixth consecutive game Saturday when No. 10 Wisconsin visits No. 13 Iowa in a Big Ten showdown. Parker, in his 12th season as the Hawkeyes' defensive coordinator, had his right foot amputated in late September because of diabetes-related complications.
Iowa coach Kirk Feretnz said there's a chance Parker will return next week, in time for the Hawkeyes' game with Michigan State. Parker might be gone - he's currently in a rehabilitation center - but he hasn't been forgotten.
In fact, Parker probably will hear his name being called during Saturday's game.
