Xiao purchased a small stake in the D-League Texas Legends, who begin play this fall in the Dallas suburb of Frisco. While Xiao concurred his share is "something like'' 5 to 10 percent, he still feels like a pioneer.
"Absolutely,'' Xiao said. "I have that kind of incredible feeling. It really is a dream come true for me, an incredible opportunity for me.''
It's not surprising Legends co-owner Donnie Nelson (pictured right) and general manager Del Harris played big roles in bringing Xiao aboard. Nelson, also general manager for the parent Dallas Mavericks, was a primary reason the Mavericks in 2000 signed Wang Zhizhi as the first NBA player from China. And Harris, a longtime NBA head coach and assistant, coached the 2004 Chinese Olympic team.
